How to sell beer to grown men
FFS! The advertising company must be pissing themselves getting paid for this.

Or men did have the thinking power of a typical brexiter back then?

One of the earliest ads in a West Ham programme in the 1970's:

Abbot Ale. It's for men.

along with:

(below a picture of Bonzo)

There's only one other thing that will never let you down whatever the weather.... a Ford from Allens

Re: How to sell beer to grown men
The best beer advert in Christendom.........

An evening in September,
Summer's main force is spent,
A dog barking somewhere in Sussex,
Can be heard...
From a village In Kent

An ancient elm remains unmoved
As a swallow performs some tricks,
And the man who bats at number 3
Hits a gnat...
For 6

Such and evening should be celebrated,
So, it's no ordinary bitter for me.

Tonight let money be no object,
I'll have a pint of JC

Lowenbrau (amongst many others) available for draft in your own home - albeit you need the Philips Perfactdraft machine

https://www.beerhawk.co.uk/perfectdraft-lowenbrau-6l-keg

There's some absolutely cracking kegs you can get for that

Soldo,

Skol White Top or Lowenbrau... loved it, beer of choice pre match in the late 80s early 90s. Had Lowenbrau on tap before a gig in Camden a couple of months ago too... brought back all the memories.

as for 80's beer ads... can't beat this one.

I saw a discarded can of that the other day.

Also Harp lager a while ago.

No idea how long they'd been there

Thanks Maggie.

The 80s were great. If I could go back to '89, I'd stay there for good.

Re: How to sell beer to grown men
I reckon if WHO was around in the 80s, there'd be less bores trying to shoehorn politics into every thread.

Oh, and Soldo would be droning on about how great the 60s were.

God the 80s were shit.

Maybe so. But people most definitely seemed a whole lot happier, and didn't take themselves too seriously like they do now.

One of the funny things about this day and age is when Wokey types talk about how oppressed housewives were back in the day. Most of the women I remember from that era were forces of nature, and seemed much happier than the nervous breakdown mob of today.

I like the old retro adverts that Holsten did.

I can't tell a Wadi from a pond,
but there is one wadi to which I will respo-o--ond
That ca-a-a-a-alls for a Holsten"

Re: How to sell beer to grown men
My favourite beer ad was Poachers Bitter... the sea captain type geezer rowing across to the shack bar in appalling weather. "Ah, Poachers. Never known a night loike it, and I ain't lookin for'ard to the journey 'ome, neither".

When it pans out at the end, he's crossing a lake about 20 yards across...

What were you thinking?

Websters were one of the few breweries whose flagship brew was not a bitter - it was a light mild in their case.
